What is PET foam core?

PET foam core is a closed-cell thermoplastic structural foam. It possesses excellent mechanical properties and is commonly used as a structural core material. It significantly reduces the weight of a structure whilst enhancing its strength and rigidity. It is also environmentally friendly and recyclable, making it a more eco-friendly option compared to structural core materials such as PVC. It is compatible with a variety of resins, including unsaturated and epoxy resins, and offers excellent processability.

With a maximum temperature resistance of 150°C, it is suitable for a range of processes, including hand lay-up and vacuum infusion, and is resistant to deformation at higher temperatures.

It is an ideal core material for sandwich composite structures used in marine, transportation, wind energy, and industrial applications.

Flame-retardant additives are incorporated into the formulation to achieve a certain level of flame retardancy.

It is widely used in sectors such as rail transport, construction and home furnishings.

Jloncell PET Sanded Series

When laminating PET foam to CFRT skin, the surface must be perfectly smooth .

The surface of standard-type panels can be sanded to achieve a premiun surface .

Sanding reduces resin absorption; if customer has specific weight requirements, sanding is recommended.

Jloncell-PET-Seal-Series

Jloncell PET Seal Series

This series undergoes a single high-temperature heat-sealing process at 280°C on the surface of standard PET sheets; the sealing process significantly reduces resin absorption. PET foam used in wind power applications often requires pore sealing. The standard density is 100 kg/m³ and it is DNV-certified.

Why Choose PET Foam Core?

Excellent Mechanical Properties

PET foam offers high compressive strength, shear strength, and stiffness, making it suitable for load-bearing composite structures.

Sustainable and Recyclable

Environmentally friendly choice for manufacturers seeking to reduce their carbon footprint.

Why choose PET foam core

Outstanding Temperature Resistance

PET foam can withstand higher processing temperatures, making it ideal for: Vacuum infusion / RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) / Compression molding / Thermoplastic composite processing

Good Resin Compatibility

PET foam is compatible with Polyester resin/Vinyl ester resin/Epoxy resin/ Phenolic resin

Moisture and Chemical Resistance

The closed-cell structure prevents water ingress and provides good resistance to chemicals and environmental exposure, ensuring long-term durability in marine and outdoor applications.

Cost-Effective Alternative

PET foam often offers a competitive price-performance ratio compared with PMI and SAN foams while providing superior sustainability benefits. It is an economical solution for large-volume composite production.Widely used as an alternative to PVC, SAN and PMI foam in large-scale industrial production

Easy Processing

PET foam can be easily:Cut / CNC machined / Thermoformed / Grooved and perforated

This improves manufacturing efficiency and reduces production costs.
